Patricia Williams was born in Kings County Hospital Brooklyn, New York. She lived in Bed-sty for her early years. This included elementary and junior high school. She attended high school in Queens, NY.
Patricia was born with an eye disease that was very unusual. This eye condition kept her from being active during her younger years. It also kept her from being physically active as an adult. Pat said, “As a visually impaired person these many challenges along the way were very trying.” Pat has made a great improvement to her life in the meantime.
Pat’s first job was a junior counselor for Brooklyn Youth Services. She worked with children ages 6-14. As a counselor, she took the children on trips, to parks, museums and many other activities in the city. For the next several years Pat worked as a counselor until she graduated from high school.
Ms. Williams then attended La Guardia College and received an Associate Degree in Mental Health. After graduating she found work in the clerical field. She enrolled at the Jewish Guild for the Blind to learn more about the clerical field where she learned typing and transcriptions. She then secured a job with the Federal Government, as a secretary to the Assistant Chief of Nursing Service.
Patricia also worked in several departments within the Veterans Affairs Medical Center. When Ms. Williams found that her field required more training in the computer field she was able to take classes at Baruch College. She was taught Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Power point. These skills proved to be invaluable because at CDE I can use them to train classes and perform administrative duties,” she said.
"Ultimately," Patricia Williams said, "I want to work with children and senior citizens. I would like to assist physically challenged children, inspiring them to do their best at whatever they are interested in. including sports, exercise and the arts as well. CDE is the catalyst that imports that opportunity. I believe a structure can be developed through this organization that will allow my interest in that direction to manifest.”
